Years ago, I met a real cocky and snobbish real estate agent when we were looking for a unit at our condominium to purchase. I remember clearly one Sunday morning I made a call to him at about 10ish am. When he finally answered the call, he chided me for calling him so early in the morning. Oh for pete’s sake, 10ish am early? Even if I had called him at 6am, he should not have scolded his customer in that manner and tone. I think he must be having those ‘moments’ with his lover back then and the call must have snapped his temper. And I am surprised that he is still around as a real estate agent. He is no where close to those professional Southport nc real estate agents. He ought to get a wake-up call for chiding off his customer.

Lemon and Orange Rinds – Great Kitchen Cleaners!
I love lemons and oranges! They are bursting with vitamin C and the juice of the lemon neutralizes the acids in our body. And lemon juice is great for those who want to shed some weight too! The juice breaks down the oil that you have eaten. If you suffer from gout, stock up your fridge with lemons! Besides, the lemon and orange rinds are fantastic kitchen cleaners too! My fridge will always have a supply of lemons and limes, apart from oranges and kiwi — all the vitamin C rich citrus fruits.
Besides being a wonderful ‘sponge’ to wipe away grease, cream and hardened food remnants off the plates, bowls, cutlery and pans, the lemon and orange rinds are great to wash water tumblers, kettle and water jugs – naturally and safely without having to use dishwashing liquid… and leaves a very fresh and lingering citrus scent after each wash… and you get that squeaky feel on the surface too! Did you know that most dishwashing liquid has citric acid, which is a naturally ingredient in lemons, limes and oranges?
A lemon a day saves my health, waist line and helps me in the kitchen too!
The orange and lemon rinds are used to wipe away oily cream/icing, grease and oily food remnants off plates and pots before I use a dried gourd/loofah (as sponge) with a little dishwashing liquid to wash them. I love to see how effectively the lemon and orange rinds wipe off bread dough and cream off the MIL’s hand mixer after she has finished with bread or cake baking. And I do not have to wash the greasy stuff off the sponge. It’s a fantastic way of making full use of my fruits and I get to save $$ on kitchen papers, sponges and dishwashing liquid too!
Downside of Condo Living
One of the downsides of condo living is that the onus is on you if water from your unit leaks to the floor beneath yours, though you have done nothing wrong. Over the past 4 years, we have hacked our bathroom floor umpteen times to fix the waterproof layering but water is still leaking to the floor beneath ours. I am loathing this (especially loathe the black faced tenant of the unit beneath ours) and fuming mad with the contractor for doing such a shoddy job which is now causing us more leaks in our wallets as well! We have changed several contractors but still the problem does not seem to get solved, sigh! Perhaps it is time to hunt for some reliable contractors online and at the same time, I can get quotes for flooring for basement here for the hubs’s new kiosk.
Big Tonsil Stones In Sherilyn’s Throat!
I got a major shock of my life when Alycia told me horridly that she saw 2 teeth sprouting out from Sherilyn’s throat! I quickly took a look and felt a gush of warm blood rushing up to my head and I felt giddy. The 2 white stuff from the right side of her throat (my left side), next to the Uvula indeed looked like 2 teeth sprouting out. What in the world was that??! Initially the hubs and I thought that they were her wisdom teeth BUT how on earth could the teeth be on the throat? Impossible! So…worry pangs surfaced!
Whenever we mothers see anything highly abnormal on our child’s body, what’s the first thing that comes through your mind? The big C! I kept checking her throat that day and I think I checked it more than a dozen times that Saturday through to Sunday. And then when Sher checked it on Sunday afternoon, she screamed excitedly to me, telling me that one of the ‘white tooth’ was gone. And on Monday, the other ‘white tooth’ was gone too… and I saw another smaller one sprouting out from the same spot. With this, I was very certain that the ‘white teeth’ in Sher’s throat were Tonsil Stones as I am very prone to getting them too! My mum and brothers too! In fact, as I am typing this post, I can feel a small Tonsil Stone on the right side of my throat. I ate something heaty over the weekend. And they always sprout from the back of my throat on either the right or left side. The stones will come out if I try to cough it out and it stinks like a ball of poop! What induces Tonsil Stones to sprout from my throat is heatiness. I have a very heaty body and will get throat infection 100% of the time after eating deep fried food and food fresh out from the oven or wok. This is one of the reasons why I have turned into a health freak as I fall sick very easily due to my extreme sensitive throat and heaty body.
I do not have a clearer pic of the Tonsil Stones on Sher’s throat. This is the best shot I could snap with my non-HD digital camera.
The ‘white tooth’ on the left side of the pic could be a Tonsil Stone. It’s gone now. Thanks heaven our GP’s clinic was closed on that Saturday night, else we would have wasted RM50 just for the doctor to have a look and for all I know, the doctor would not even have an inkling on what those white stuff are on Sher’s throat … and would most probably refer us to see an ENT specialist! When it comes to his daughter’s health, the Hubs is one hypochondriac and chronic worrier and will insist to bring them to the clinic to check at the onset of a slight fever or a slight prob.
What are Tonsil Stones?
Tonsil Stones are usually found in the clefts, also known as “Tonsillar Crypts” of the throat. You can usually find Tonsil Stones in back of throat. Tonsil Stones are actually chalky deposits made up of Calcium Carbonate. This makes them white in appearance.
Your tonsils are filled with nooks and crannies where bacteria and other materials, including dead cells and mucous, can become trapped. When this occurs, the debris can become concentrated in white formations that occur in the pockets.
Tonsil stones, or tonsilloliths, are formed when this trapped debris hardens, or calcifies. This tends to occur most often in people who suffer from chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated bouts of tonsillitis.
While many people have small tonsilloliths that develop in their tonsils, it is quite rare to have a large and solidified tonsil stone.

Soy Bean Butter
I was overjoyed when I stumbled upon soy bean butter at the Isetan supermarket @ KLCC last week. Soy beans are choke-full of protein, calcium and nutrients. And they are a dieter’s ideal food as soy beans are high in protein and low in carbs.
Here’s how I savored my SoyNut butter…
A thick spread of SoyNut butter together with a thick layer of yoghurt on my Massimo 100% wholewheat bread. The texture of the SoyNut butter is exactly like peanut butter, which is a tad dry, thus spreading a layer of yoghurt would add moisture to the sandwich. The next day, I mixed my SoyNut butter with salted pure butter and a drizzle of maple syrup. I prefer this combo.
SoyNut butter is cholesterol-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, no trans fat, does not require refrigeration after opening and made from NON-GMO beans. It tastes almost like peanut butter minus the peanut and is a perfect alternative for those who are allergic to peanuts.
Between peanut butter and soy bean butter, I must admit I prefer peanut butter as peanuts have a more aromatic taste while soy beans are naturally bland in taste. However the sandwich will be more tasty when soy bean butter is mixed with other bread spreads.
Easy To Make Thin Crust Homemade Pizza Using Wholewheat Wraps
Here’s an easy peasy way to make homemade pizza without having to knead the dough from scratch. Alycia and Sherilyn’s art class teacher gave me this suggestion. She is also a very busy WFHM with no maid and she whips this up for her 2 toddlers at least once or twice a week.
All you need are :
1) Wholewheat wraps. I use Mission Wraps wholegrain wraps. I bought this from Cold Storage.
2) Pizza sauce
3) Fresh mushrooms (optional and we used fresh button mushrooms)
4) Cheese. You can use cheddar cheese, mozarella cheese, parmessan cheese or those individually wrapped square processed cheddar cheeses.
5) Bacon (optional)
6) Bell pepper, cherry tomatoes (all optional and these will add colors and flavors to the pizza)
Method
==========
1) Spread pizza sauce (you can also use tomato sauce or tomato paste) on the wraps. You can tweak this recipe to your own by using anything you can find in your fridge!
2) Lay chopped fresh mushrooms, bacon, bell pepper, etc. and cheese on the wraps
3) Bake in oven or toaster for 15 minutes and done!
If Health Freak Busy Mommy says it’s easy to prepare means it is easy! I shun anything that requires many steps, preparation, oil splatters and washing up. This requires minimal work and can be prepared in under half an hour. Even your primary school kids can prepare this dish on their own!
Healthy Breakfast On Those PMS Days
My taste bud alters at different time of the month. Before my Aunt Flow visits each month, the palate gets excited with sweet stuff.
This is one of my cravings for breakfast on those PMS days…
Wholewheat ABC cereals which I hijacked from my daughters with pecans, pistachios (untoasted) and strawberry yoghurt. This combo pleased the palate so well that I just had to have it 2-3 times a day LOL! Now that Aunt Flow has gone, the palate is now all geared for savory stuff. Craving for fried chicken now but damn the cough and phlegm, I’ll have to settle for steamed savories and sashimi instead. I’ll bet my girls will be beaming if I tell them that it’s Japanese food tonite!
Removing Wax From Fruits With Harvest Pure Fruit and Vegetable Wash
The other night, I bought a punnet of baby plums (Angelino Sultanas) imported from Turkey from the night market. In the darkness of the night, I could not see that the plums were coated in a layer of white stuff. The next day, I got a shock when I opened up the punnet of plums. Each and every plum had a thick layer of white coating on the skin. The whitish coating could be wax and pesticides. I washed the plums with water but the coating of white stuff remained stubbornly on the skin. Then I remembered I have a bottle of Harvest Pure fruit and veggie wash! With just half a small cap of the solution mixed with water ( I switched to Acidic Water mode on my Panasonic water filter), I could see the skin of the plums turn from white to dark purple almost instantly. After a 5-minute soak in the fruit and veggie wash solution, the skin of the baby plums were sparkling clean! Before serving them to the girls, I briefly soaked the plums with acidic water again and then rinsed the plums with running tap water for a final wash. All in, the plums were soaked and washed for 15-20 minutes. Yep, I admit I am a clean hypochondriac freak!
My girls enjoying their baby plums, with skin intact too. Each of them gobbled up 2-3 plums in one sitting and they all had a very easy time on the throne that day!
Colorful Fried Rice And Spiced Tea Eggs
I am fortunate to have a health freak mil who stays with us as she often whips up healthy meals for us, using only fresh ingredients and mostly organic ingredients for her bakes.
Here’s another of her most cooked one pot meal – multi-grain fried rice with multi-colored veggie — red, green and yellow bell peppers, celery, beans, minced meat and fried eggs.
Since we still had a packet of Tea Egg Spices from Purple Cane that was about to expire, she whipped up a big pot of spiced tea eggs, enough to satiate my love for tea eggs for 3 days!
And oh yes, she also baked a tray of banana muffins on the same day.
