No Longer Bloated

The Duphalac syrup is taking effect and Sherilyn has been pooping lots for the past few days. Her appetite has also returned and she’s no longer rejecting milk, albeit she’s still holding on to her cup of milk in the morning and needs at least half an hour to gulp it down after much nagging and threats from me. Lately my gals prefer fresh milk to formula milk powder meant for kids their age…. coz fresh milk tastes better. I prefer fresh milk too.  I am really contemplating switching them completely to fresh milk. It’s going to be way easier to get them to drink fresh milk and I don’t have to burst my blood vessel coaxing #2 to drink her formula milk. And it’s going to save me the trouble of fixing them milk since I can just pour the fresh milk out from the box right from the fridge. But aren’t kids supposed to drink formula milk enriched with all the vitamins, minerals, DHA, AA, SA and all that jazz?

Anyway, back to Sherilyn. Today we brought her to an Italian restaurant for lunch and she could chomp down slices after slices of bread with huge chunks of butter. She also whacked a plate of spaghetti and helped herself to more thereafter. Also ate half a cup of pistachio ice-cream for dessert. After lunch, she said she wanted to poo! After her poopie business, she said she was hungry again, goodness!  So when we reached home, I gave her a cup of fresh milk, which she still needed at least half an hour to finish with nagging and threats from me and daddy… coz she just likes to dilly dally and play till no end before she eats and drinks.  That’s just Sherilyn.  Tonight, I’ll fix her some chilled buckwheat noodles with some cold Japanese greentea noodles sauce.  When she heard I was going to prepare noodles for her, she was the first to say “yay…..yummy noodles“!  I think I will have no problem getting her to  finish her bowl of noodles. As long as she does not have to eat rice with dishes, she will be one very happy girl and so will I!

excellent! What a relief for her as well as mommy! Kesian sherilyn… if only she knew how to communicate properly her problem so she needn’t go thru all those reprimands, threats and punishment when she was actually suffering.

Oh..I’m so glad for her. Very good…keep it up. I think you will prob need to continue with psyllium husks for her, just to keep her regular.

Abt milk, my mom used to make a pitcher of milk daily and put it in the fridge. Then whenever we wanted, we just poured it out ourselves. You could do that instead of making it everytime. Plus…fresh milk is quite ex if drunk daily.

Can you tell me if fresh milk tastes nice in Msia? I have been told that fresh milk in Msia is quite watered down and children tend to drink powdered milk. I am asking becos I am visiting KL with my two girls in Oct and need to know if I shld bring some packs of UHT milk with me from Australia. Thanks for your help.

Charmaine… we drink Marigold HL fresh milk (low in fat and high in protein) and yes, I do think it is quite watered down. I hv tried the Dutch Lady UHT full cream milk (not fresh milk) and think it’s quick creamy and not that watered down. Fresh milk is watered down.

Full cream milk is just regular milk(4% milk fat). Most of the time(in Msia too?) fresh milk could be partly skimmed to 2% or 1% or even skimmed. Used to be 4% aka homogenized milk was recommended for kids after weaning from breast milk but with the high incidence of childhood obesity , it is now advised to go for 2% milk or even less. Milk on its own has enuf nutrients so there isn’t any use with more added cos don’t forget your body can only absorb so much. Of course this is also assuming the child has no malabsorption issues. Ard here our milk has added Vit D as we don’t have as much sunlight. I would think it is totally illegal to have milk watered down….or have melamine added to it! Talk to a qualified dietitian..I recall when my kids were not having enuf milk(in my opinion) she calmed me down that as long as they have a healthy diet that even one glass of milk is all they need and can absorb. Guess what, now my kids still want milk at every meal and I go thru 4L every 2 days! For Charmaine..UHT milk comes in lo-fat and easily avail. in Msia, altho I have to admit Aust has the best dairy products! When the kids as toddlers were travelling, I find that it sometimes took a couple of days for the tummy to adjust to the change in milk, so be advised!
Sorry for the long post…just hoping others don’t make the same mistakes I did.
