Clean Freak

Ever since Baby C has been having frequent attacks of UTI and having bacteria detected in her pee most of the time, I have taken many precautionary measures to minimize bacteria from entering her body. Yesterday, I bought some Dettol wet wipes and a box of alcohol swabs from the pharmacy.

I wipe the railings on Baby C’s crib (the part where she chews and licks on all the time) at least twice a day with the alcohol swab. The dettol wipes are to wipe her toys and other things that she has contact with.  I wish I don’t have to do this, it makes me feel as if I have OCD (obsession compulsive disorder) but I am just trying my utmost best to prevent another UTI from attacking my poor baby.   It crushes my heart each time she has a UTI or has bacteria detected in her pee… as this would mean painful jabs for her and lotsa torture for my poor baby 🙁

I just remembered when I was in KL, I used to buy this 5 liter dettol from medical chinese hall. I’d make a solution everyday (when kids get diarrhea) to wipe down whatever they’ve touched. Perhaps, that would be more cost-efficient for you.

It costs about RM80 per 5 ltr. Quite economical if you think about it.

Mott… that’s a good idea. I’m going to do that too, can save quite a bit! Tks for the suggestion.

I know and understand u need to do your level best to keep the babies healthy. Don’t tire yourself out with all this cleaning! I do agree if there was an active infection in the house such as the flu or diarrhea, then cleaning with an antiseptic is fine. Other than that, nothing better than soap and water. Antiseptics are actually inorganic chemicals, so keep that in mind. Cassandra’s UTI is from reflux, not from an external source. She will still get colds/ sniffles etc and not necessarily related to the reflux.
Research has also shown kids who live on farms are healthier(less illnesses, infections etc) than city kids….why?? Farms are far less sanitary, lots more mud/dirt and bugs out there. Reason is kids in rural areas build up their own resistance through frequent exposure. Trend now is to minimize use of antibiotics(I know, reflux has to be treated with antibiotics) in childhood problems like ear infections or colds/coughs. This hopefully will help prevent the dawn of the “superbug”.
Recently, even drug companies have admitted cough medicines are of NO benefit to kids and thus are not even being sold anymore!
