Our surgeon prescribed Baby C with Mederma cream to help the wound on her tummy (2 cuts below her belly button), neck and chest to speed up the healing process. Mederma Skin Care For Scars helps scars appear softer and smoother. Mederma cream can be used after surgeries, accidents, to remove acne scars, burns, for old/existing scars and even to remove stretch marks. Mederma is made in Germany and a small tube of 20g Mederma costs RM45 (from the hospital). According to the instructions, Mederma should be generously applied and gently rubbed for 2-3 minutes into Baby C’s wound 3-4 times a day for 8 weeks. Though it states 2-3 minutes, I can hardly rub baby’s wounds that long as she would always cry and struggle. I am quite certain that the scars on her wound would fade as she grows.

Maltofer Syrup (Iron) For Baby C
When our surgeon prescribed Maltofer syrup (iron) to Baby C to increase her haemoglobin which was quite low, I really thought my baby would not be able to swallow the black yucky looking stuff… coz I knew I wouldn’t be able to. I am one who finds it extremely hard to swallow meds in syrup form. But when I fed baby with it, she took it quite well. In fact, she didn’t really make a big fuss whenever I fed her with it coz when I smelled it, it actually has a very appetizing aroma and smells like caramel and toffee. Thank God baby does not have much problems swallowing the iron syrup, else she may have to go for a blood transfusion if her haemoglobin drops further. Anyway, I think her haemoglobin is going up again coz she doesn’t look that pale anymore… and her lips are red again.
Baby C has to take 2.5ml of Maltofer twice a day. Sometimes I only feed her once a day, especially when I notice that her poop is a tad hard the following day. Maltofer also causes the stools to be dark green and smell horrid!
I normally feed baby the Maltofer with her Pediasure (which I still have to painstakingly spoon feed her 3 times a day at the most 2 ounces each time) together with some snacks like buns, bread, rusks or crackers as treats. Baby still loves mummy’s milkie best.
Handy Pill Crusher And Container
Before Baby C was discharged from the hospital after her second surgery, she was prescribed with a bunch of supplements, namely iron syrup, folic acid (both to prevent anemia and to increase her red blood cells as her haemoglobin was pretty low after 2 major surgeries), multivitamin syrup and probiotics powder.
As the folic acid was in pill form, the nurse told me to buy a pill cutter and crusher to grind the pill into powder. And this was what hubby bought from the pharmacy:
First I put the pill into the top section of the pill crusher and screw the cap. Once the cap is screwed to the max, a cracking sound can be heard, which means that the pill / table has been crushed.
This is the crushed folic acid in powder form.
I then pour the powder into the container, which is at the bottom of the pill crusher to store the powder. The divided section is meant for storage for 2 dosages.
I never knew there’s such a handy tool. Do you think it would be easier to feed toddlers with crushed pills as opposed to meds in syrup form?
Albumin Drips For Baby C
During her 3-week stay in the hospital, Baby C was given two 50ml syringes of albumin via IV drips to nourish her weakened body, as shown in the pic below:
Each 50ml syringe cost a whopping RM300 ++. Can you imagine how many eggs we can buy with over RM700++? But it’s ok, as long as it’s good for our sweetie-pie, we will pay for it.
Egozite For Treatment Of Nappy Rash And Soreness
When Baby C had terrible purging during her stay in the hospital, her diaper area turned really sore. Her diaper area was as red as lobster and each time we washed the area after her poopie business, she screamed and cried in pain. Our surgeon prescribed her with Egozite (which contained zinc oxide). Each time after she poo pooed, I cleaned her diaper area with saline, thereafter applied Egozite generously. After several days, the soreness subsided. Though very effective in preventing nappy rash and soreness, a small 50g tube of Egozite costs a whopping RM19.90! I didn’t know the price and happily ordered 2 more tubes from the pediatric ward when the first tube was finished. When the bill came, I was shocked to see the price. Hubby had gone to a few pharmacies in Penang to hunt for Egozite but none of them sell it. Egozite is lanolin-free and hydrocortisone-free and is made in Australia.
