Last To Be Down

Baby was finally bitten by the virulent bug that had bitten everyone in the family and she’s the last one in the family to be down. She has phlegm and a slight stuffy nose. She had low-grade fever (37.5 to 37.8 degrees) for about 3 days and I finally brought her to the paed 2 days ago when my hubs and mil kept pestering me to bring her for a check-up, just to be safe. This paed is not pro-oral meds knowing very well Baby’s medical history.  As usual, he only prescribed Baby with Ventolin, Iliadin nasal drops (which I didn’t use on her as she got better on the same day we brought her to the paed) and PCM (only fed her with 2 doses of PCM over 3 days). I find sponging her body / showering her very effective in bringing the fever down. Her fever normally spikes up during mid night till the wee hours of the morning. For 2 nights, I had to drag her up from bed to force some water down her throat, which she of course protested and screamed murder.

Baby survived on only biscuits, E.Excel’s Nutrifresh, a little bread and some soy bean milk for 2 days. She had no appetite for other food, even soup, which is her favorite.

Oh yes, she also got her calcium and calories from ice-creams! Since she didn’t like the taste of water, I gave her ice cubes instead, which she absolutely loved!

My sick little kitty with a wet towel on her head and ice pack to cool her body.  When Baby had high fever for days after her surgeries last year,  the nurses used ice pack to bring the temperature down.

Heavy Work-Out During Pregnancy

I saw the heavily preggers woman in the gym again this morning. This time, my jaw almost dropped when I saw her on all flours on the floor, doing pumping / push-ups like a pro!! To begin with, even if you are not pregnant, it requires a mountain of stamina and strength on your part to be able to do push-ups.  With a few kilos of excess baggage, it would be really strenuous on the hands and you’ll need double the amount of stamina. When her bump gets bigger very soon, I wonder how she will cope with the push-ups as the bump would be touching the floor the moment she goes on all fours on the floor. Before she did the push-ups, she was running on the treadmill. After the push-ups, my jaw dropped again when I saw her seated at the weights equipment pulling weights. Then, I saw her lifting dumb bells!! If there is a competition for married female fitness buffs, this lady will surely clinch the title!

Bread 3x A Day!

When I don’t feel well, all I want to eat is bread. Yup, I can eat bread 3x a day and not get fed up of it. I just love bread.

This is my breakfast:

A hard boiled free range chicken egg and a slice of homemade pumpkin-sunflower seeds bread with cream cheese spread and Japanese butter, sprinkled with some toasted sesame seed.

And this is my lunch:

Homemade pumpkin bread again, this time with tuna-egg-mayo-onions. Yums, I just love sandwiches!

Everyone Is Down

Everyone in the house has been having cough and sore throat. I think we all got bitten by the bug from our visiting friend who had a bad throat infection. Sherilyn got bitten first, then Alycia, next my mil, then me and now the hubs is down and it’s pretty bad. Baby is also showing some mild symptoms yesterday like sneezing and she sounded like there’s some phlegm in her throat too. I have just recovered and I think I am getting it again because those pesky bugs are everywhere in the house now, preying on us. I felt weak and uncomfortable yesterday, as if a fever was going to hit me soon. Though I still had loads of work to do, I dropped everything and went to bed early. The review of the car insurance blog and matters pertaining to my online store can wait. I need REST, lots of it to heal my body quickly. I am not prepared to spend a hundred bucks on a consultation with the doctor just to get some antibiotics.

Basil Leaves To Treat Sore Throat

When I wrote in Facebook that I was having a bad sore throat, Michelle was quick to tell me that she chewed on basil leaves to treat her sore throat. Coincidentally my mil bought a few pots of basil leaves from the supermarket (to make Pesto sauce) and I pinched a handful of those leaves from the pots to chew on.

I was apprehensive initially. I thought how yucky can it be to be chewing on raw basil leaves! But my throat hurt too much and I was feeling really horrible.  So I held my breath and chewed on those leaves like a cow muahahahahah! To my surprise, it ain’t that bad after all. In fact, I love the taste and feeling I get after chewing on the basil leaves. After 2 days of chewing on those leaves, along with gargling my throat with salt water and sucking Difflam, the pain is now gone. The greenish thick phlegm with streaks of blood are also gone. And I didn’t succumb to taking oral antibiotics!

Basil leaves have been used for ages to treat throat infections like throat soreness, throat pain, throat hoarseness, etc. You can google on this to read more.

The next time you have sore throat, head over to the supermarket instead of to the doctor’s. Get yourself a few packets of basil leaves and be a cow for a few days. It’s worth it!

Another Eye Chalazion

Baby has another eye chalazion after an eye chalazion surgery about 2 months ago. Lightning does strike on the same place twice!! This time it’s on her left upper eyelid. 2 months ago, she had it on her right lower eyelid. A chalazion is a lump in the eyelid caused by a blocked oil gland. Some kids are just very prone to getting chalazion. Our ophthalmologist was one kid who had 4 chalazion surgeries from age 3 through 10!

This time, I didn’t want to take any chances. At the first symptom of a slight swell on the eyelid, we brought her to see the ophthalmologist at ISEC, who confirmed that one of the oil glands is blocked. He told us that there is very good chance that the swelling will resolve after some Vigamox eye drops.

This Baby of mine is really problematic. Her health issues never seem to come to an end, sigh….

Dramatic Weight Loss Stories

I don’t look forward to the weekends. On weekends when my 3 kids are at home, I barely have a breather. I don’t even have the luxury to sit down to have my breakfast or to read the newspapers. Ever since I started running an online store, I have lost some weight. Let me tell you that I am stressed out to the max handling 3 kids, 3 blogs and 1 blogshop. I am almost back to my pre-Alycia, Sherilyn and Cassandra weight of 43kg. If this hectic lifestyle continues, I can contribute my very own dramatic weight loss stories to weight loss websites!

Sore Throat Relief

My throat ain’t feeling too good early this week. It was really sore and itchy and I had no appetite to eat anything that’s hard, fried or spicy. So here’s what I ate for breakfast:

Chilled red bean-mung bean-snow fungus tong sui, a cup of strawberry Anlene high calcium yoghurt..

and chilled beancurd (tau foo far).  I also increased my intake of fruits and vegetables.

Having cold liquid wash down my throat felt really comfortable and provided some relief from the terrible pain. My friends advised me to visit the doctor to get some antibiotics but I don’t believe in eating antibiotics. I prefer to heal myself naturally and with anything but antibiotics. I also popped E.Excel’s ACT which is supposedly good for strengthening the immune system (consists of alfalfa powder, ganoderma and tangerine peel),  echninacea tabs and gargled my throat with salt water throughout the day. I also chewed on fresh basil leaves. The sore throat is now gone but I need to work on getting rid of the phlegm that’s causing my throat to feel itchy and cough.

Acne Scar Removal

I have a friend who used to suffer from acne ever since she was a teenager right through her twenties. It was so bad that she was prescribed with oral antibiotics and Vitamin E, which she had to eat for many months. The results were good and the acne stopped appearing. But the acne scars were pretty bad and she had to apply topical anti-scar creams on her face. I have not seen her for a long time and I wonder if the anti scars have vanished. If I ever bump into her, I will tell her to go to acnescarremoval.org, the ultimate acne scar removal website for advice.

My Wholesome And Healthy Breakfast

I don’t know if anyone would eat such healthy stuff for breakfast:

A slice of homemade multi-grain bread, spread with homemade pesto sauce on half the slice and fat-reduced cream cheese + homemade sugar-reduced kaya on the other slice.
This healthy stuff is just my kinda breakfast stuff and I honestly prefer eating this to a plate of oily char koay teow or a packet of calories-packed nasi lemak with chicken or cuttlefish curry.

My mil’s homemade multi-grain bread made of oat groats, wheat bran, reduced brown sugar and extra virgin olive oil and fermented for over 18 hours.  Every bite is oh so chewy, iLike!
