Edible Gold And Buying Gold

Lately, I feel lethargic and have been having numbness on my right hand at night. The numbness on the hand could be due to poor blood circulation and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I used to suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome after the birth of my first child. I also find that my memory is failing me lately. All these could be attributed by stress and the lack of sleep. I was told that colloidal gold can reduce stress, improve blood circulation and improve memory. Have you heard of colloidal gold? They are very tiny pieces of pure gold suspended in liquid and have been used to treat a variety of health ailments for thousands of years. But I still find it hard to believe that gold can be consumed. I rather buy gold as a form of investment than to put it down my throat!

So Much Good Food

Ever since my mil was back from Hong Kong, we have been having so much homemade goodies. I don’t have to crack my head to whip up 2 meals a day for we can be rest assured to see piping hot good food placed on the dining table for lunch, tea time and dinner. She bakes buns, breads and cakes every other day and they all taste so good. It’s hard to lose weight staying with her as there’s just too much temptation everywhere! I hope I don’t have to rely on diet pills to stay slim!

All 3 Kiddos Down With Purging And High Fever

I thought Alycia was spared from the bout of purging and high fever that had hit Sherilyn and Cassandra but she too was bitten by the vicious bug yesterday. When Alycia came back from tuition yesterday, she looked tired, listless and down. She was also throwing a tantrum. She then went into her bedroom and slept on the floor until 7pm. During dinner, she could not even eat half the bowl of porridge. I touched her body and it was burning hot. Took her temperature and it read 38.2 degrees Celsius. Alycia displayed all the similar symptoms as Sherilyn and Cassandra – purging, stomach ache, lethargic and high fever. All 3 kiddos poo poo throughout the night – Sherilyn twice, Alycia once and Cassandra once. Alycia puked once too this morning. Today, both the older girls are skipping school to rest at home. I hope all these purging episodes will come to an end SOON. I am so tired washing pooped out bottoms every hour of the day!

Sourcing For Good Quality Handbags

I used to sell handbags in my blogshop. But I stopped getting the handbags from the supplier when I realized that the quality wasn’t superb. Well, maybe I am just too pernickety when it comes to quality. I should try to source for handbags with quality that is near to the quality of Rebecca Minkoff handbags with a price that’s affordable. I am pretty sure that if I can find nice handbags with good quality at an affordable price, my existing customers will surely give me their full support.

A Day Of Washing Pooped Out Bottoms

Today is a day of washing pooped out bottoms for me!! Both Baby and Sherilyn are having diarrhea. They are slightly feverish too. I kid you not, I am rushing to the bathroom to washed pooped out bottoms every half an hour. Baby was feverish for 1-2 days and is better today. But she pooped 4-5x today. Consistency of the poop is like porridge. Sherilyn started having high fever (highest was at 39.3 degrees Celsius) yesterday. I knew she was not well when she napped for 2 hours in the afternoon yesterday. She hardly ever naps in the afternoon no matter how tired she may be. The fever did not subside despite a suppository. This morning hubs brought Sherilyn to the paed’s office. The paed said she has viral infection and a slight strep throat. I wonder why doctors like to lump most of the sicknesses as viral infection? Can they just be a little specific? She was prescribed with Esberitox (wonder why she was given Esberitox though she has no cold!), a Leftose syrup for the throat and Ibuprofen for the fever. Sherilyn has been running to the throne every half hourly and I have been washing her bottom as well as Baby’s non-stop the whole day! I wonder what caused the diarhhea. I am now suspecting that it’s the fresh milk they drank or the santan from the Indonesian dessert that they ate at this Indonesian restaurant we went to on Sunday. I hope tomorrow will be a better day for us.

Truffle Butter

My mil brought home a small jar of truffle butter from Hong Kong recently. I have never eaten truffle butter or heard of the name before. Yes, I have heard of truffles as in chocolate or cake but not truffle butter. I’ll bet you have not heard of truffle butter too. It is very expensive and is considered a gourmet delicacy.

Truffles are wild mushrooms. They are round, warty, irregular in shape and vary from the size of a walnut to that of a man’s fist. The season for most truffles falls between September and May. Since the times of the Greeks and Romans these fungi have been used in Europe as delicacies, as aphrodisiacs, and as medicines. They are among the most expensive of the world’s natural foods, often commanding as much as $250 to $450 per pound!!

Truffles are very expensive as they are very difficult to harvest. Truffles are harvested in Europe with the aid of female pigs or truffle dogs, which are able to detect the strong smell of mature truffles underneath the surface of the ground. The female pig becomes excited when she sniffs a chemical that is similar to the male swine sex attractant. The use of pigs is risky, though, because of their natural tendency to eat any remotely edible thing. For this reason, dogs have been trained to dig into the ground wherever they find these odors, and they willingly exchange their truffle for a piece of bread and a pat on the head. Not a bad trade for the truffle hunter! Some truffle merchants dig for their prizes themselves when they see truffle flies hovering around the base of a tree. Once discovered, truffles can be collected in subsequent years at the same site.

My breakfast – a slice of wholemeal walnut bread.  Half a slice with kaya and half a slice with truffle butter.

Roasted Pork Ribs and Sweet Potato Porridge

Whenever I want to whip up something that’s fast, fuss-free, nutritious and does not require using the wok, I will cook a pot of porridge. Our favorite porridge is roasted pork ribs porridge. Sometimes I will toss in some sweet potatoes into the porridge. The sweet potatoes will make the pot of porridge sweeter and they are tasty too.

Besides, sweet potatoes are very nutritious and have a wide range of health benefits.

Sweet Potato Nutritional Benefits
Sweet potatoes, especially the deeper-colored ones, are extremely rich in carotenes (precursor of vitamin A). They are also an excellent source of vitamins C, B2, B6, E and biotin (B7).

They provide good amounts of manganese, folate (folic acid), copper and iron. It also has pantothenic acid and is rich in dietary fiber.

Sweet Potato Health Benefits

Sweet potatoes are excellent sources of plant proteins with very low calories. Unlike other starchy root vegetables, it is very low in sugar, and in fact is a good blood sugar regulator.

As an anti-oxidant: Sweet potatoes have been found to contain a high amount of anti-oxidant, making it suitable in combating inflammatory problems like asthma, arthritis, gout, etc.

Diabetes: This fibrous root is suitable for diabetics’ consumption as it is a very good blood sugar regulator, helps to stabilize and lower insulin resistance.

Digestive tract, healthy: The significant amount of dietary fiber, especially when eaten with the skin, helps to promote a healthy digestive tract, relieving constipation and also helps prevent colon cancer.

Emphysema: Smokers and people who inhale second-hand smoke should regularly consume foods high in vitamin A as smoke has been found to induce vitamin A deficiency, causing a host of other health problems to the lungs.

Fetal Development: The high folate content is important and necessary for healthy fetal cell and tissue development.

Immune System: Regular consumption of sweet potatoes strengthens the body’s immune system and develop resistance to infection.

Heart diseases: Consumption of this high potassium root helps to prevent heart attack and stroke. It helps maintain fluid and electrolyte balance in the body cells, as well as normal heart function and blood pressure.

Muscle Cramps: A deficiency in potassium can cause muscular cramps and greater susceptibility to injury. Make sweet potatoes a regular part of your diet if you exercise a lot, both for an energy boost and to prevent cramps and injuries.

Stress: When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, causing the body potassium levels to be reduced. By snacking on the potassium-packed sweet potato, it helps to rebalance the vital mineral, and helps normalize the heartbeat. This in turn sends oxygen to the brain and regulates the body’s water balance.

Food For Thought
Despite its name, the sweet potato really doesn’t belong to the same family as the potato, not even close. Potatoes are tubers, sweet potatoes are roots. I never knew that! I’ll bet you didn’t know that too eh?

If Only There Were 2 Extra Hours For Me

If only the good Lord would grant me 2 additional hours in a day just for a week, I would use the 2 hours to do nothing but SLEEP! I get only 5-6 hours of sleep everyday and feel sleepy all the time. They say that if you lack sleep, your complexion looks lackluster and will be prone to acne outbreaks too. Thank God, my complexion is still flawless and I don’t need any acne cream. In fact, I hardly ever rely on acne creams. All I need is a good workout session every morning to sweat out all the toxins from my body!

Hair-Pulling And Hair-Shedding Sessions

As I am typing this post, rascal #2 is giving me a hair-do. But it’s not the kind of hair-do that I enjoy. It’s a torture session as she is not as gentle as she should be. There are lots of hair-pulling moments where gobs of my precious locks would be yanked off. This princess wannabe who aspires to be a hairdresser will take every opportunity to practice her coiffuring skill on my hair. As it is, I don’t have a head full of thick luscious head to afford shedding some locks for her practice sessions. If she continues to target my head, I will need hair loss products in the very near future!
