Fair Or Tan?

Many women will go all out to achieve fair skin. They would spend large amounts of money on expensive skin lightening products and would avoid the sun. I have even heard of a foreign domestic maid who applied bleach on her face in the hope of getting fair skin. But the result was devastating. While some people are obsessed with getting fair skin, some prefer to be tan. This group of people would do the exact opposite of those fair-skin seekers. They would buy expensive indoor tanning lotion and bask under the scorching sun till they get the desired shade of tan on their body. Which group do you belong to? I’m with the Snow White group!

Benefits of Daily Exercise

My observation in the gym for the past few months is that the majority of early morning gym-goers are fitness junkies in their late fifties, late thirties and even a handful in their 70s. There is a retired man in his late 50s who works out for at least an hour in the gym every morning. He is really fit… and chatty and loves striking a conversation with me. Another woman, in her early 40s, a mother of 4 young kids is the fittest mother I have met. She even worked out in the gym, did push ups and lifted weights throughout her 4th pregnancy. Her baby is now 2 months old and she’s now back in the gym at full swing. Another grandma, in her early 70s is by far the fittest senior citizen I have ever met. She spends at least half an hour practising tai chi using a paper fan and a sword next to the swimming pool every morning. Later, she would brisk walk on the treadmill for another half an hour! She is trim, slim and looks really healthy. And I must be the only fitness freak in her late 30s who would run round the neighborhood every morning. I wish that more people would spend at least 20 – 30 minutes to exercise every morning. I cannot tell you how beneficial exercise is to your body, mind and soul. Try it to discover them yourself!

DePuy Hip Implant Recall

My friend’s mother recently underwent a hip replacement surgery and thankfully all went well, the surgery was a success. She used to walk with a walking stick and was in pain each time she walked. Now, she no longer suffers from pain and she is really thankful that the hip implant is not defective. Prior to the hip replacement surgery, her daughter told her that there was a major Depuy recall as the hip implants are defective. DePuy Hip Implant problems include swelling, pain, and difficulty in walking. Persistent symptoms can cause serious problems. If you or your loved ones have had a DePuy hip implant recently, please check with your doctor to see if the DePuy implant is defective. If it is defective, you can pursue a DePuy lawsuit and get a free consultation from O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath Personal Injury Lawyers by clicking on the link above.

Working Out On The Air Walker

Today was a pretty fruitful day for me in the gym. I ran more than 5km and saw over 300 calories melt away on the Air Walker. These days, I prefer to work out on the Air Walker than run outside. I find that I can work out longer on the Air Walker than run as there is lesser stress on my kness, albeit I can feel aches on my butt and shin.   But it’s ok, the Air Walker is helping me to burn more calories and I feel more accomplished every morning.

No Secret To Looking Young

I can pass off as a single woman in her early twenties in the eyes of many strangers, ahem 😀 They often ask me how I can still look so young though I have 3 kids and am already in my late thirties. Well there is no secret. I exercise everyday, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits, stay away from oily and deep fried food and I never leave home without my supplements and vitamins for women.

Peanuts Cause Zits?

My mil roasted some peanuts several days ago and I have been nibbling on them. After 2 days, zits started to appear on my chin and forehead. The Chinese say that peanuts are very ‘heaty’ and may cause zits but some people say it’s only a myth. I really do think peanuts are ‘heaty’ and whenever I eat too much, I can be rest assured to see zits popping up on my face. If you are a peanuts lover too and if these nuts are causing you zits, click here to get help!

Health Benefits Of Edamame Beans (Green Soy Beans)

Alycia my eldest daughter finds it hard to finish whatever food I put in her lunch box everyday. Nine out of ten times, she would bring her lunch box home, with the food barely touched or only a few bites eaten.   Most days, she would only eat her food when she’s at the lift of our condo, after the driver drops her off.  When I prepared some Edamame beans for her last week, she brought home an empty lunch box! Now I know what to put in her lunch box.  Another food that she will surely polish off and bring home an empty lunch is chicken nuggets.

Edamame beans for Alycia’s mid-morning recess in school.

Edamame contain high doses of omega fatty acids, dietary fiber, proteins and carbohydrates, as well as several minerals and vitamins such as manganese, zinc, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and vitamin K.

Edamame beans ares an excellent source of low-calorie protein. A half-cup of these young beans has eleven grams of protein and is one of the few vegetarian protein sources that have all nine of the essential amino acids the body can’t make. The fat in edamame is the heart-healthy kind, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats that help to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. Plus, they’re a caloric bargain at only 125 calories.

The isoflavones found in edamame and other soy products can help to lower the risk of heart disease according to some studies and may also lower blood cholesterol levels.

Soy fibers and proteins give the sensation of fullness and help in controlling hunger.

Edamame beans are also a good source of calcium which is important for strong teeth and bones.

So if you are lost for lunch box ideas for your school-going kid, go grab a bag of frozen Edamame beans from the supermarket.

Shopping On A Friday Evening

Yesterday evening, hubby announced at the eleventh hour that he wanted to bring us to Mid Valley for shopping as he had to get some stuff for a client’s function. After dinner at a Chinese restaurant near our house, we went to the shopping mall. Traffic was smooth and surprisingly, we got a nice place to park, right outside the entrance of the mall just within a minute of entering the car park. It was also surprisingly quiet at the mall, though it was a Friday evening. I guess it’s because there were no on-going sales at most of the stores, except for some cigar deals. Whenever the girls shop with daddy, they take advantage of his indulgence and would just pick and drop everything they fancy into the cart. At the check out counter, me the ‘Customs officer’ will often remove all the ‘luxuries’ out from the cart and get daddy to pay for what’s necessary only!

Versatility of Gold

Did you know that in the olden days (and perhaps even now), the American Indians would boil gold nugget in water and give the gold water to patients to drink for a variety of health benefits? But please don’t you dare try this at home yourself! The benefits of consuming gold, in particular colloidal gold are plenty, ranging from healthy digestion to healthy skin tissues, healthy joints, for treating ADHD, among others. But these have not been reviewed by the FDA and gold is not a cure or treatment. One thing is for sure. If you want to invest in something that is stable and considered a save bet to invest in, you can consider gold bullion and be sure to buy them from reputable websites like the usgoldbureau.com.

Double Check Your Child’s Meds Dosage With The Doctor!

I felt really disturbed after reading about the case of a 20-month old baby boy who was given double dosage of meds by the pharmacist of a private hospital here in KL in yesterday’s newspapers.  The pharmacist not only prescribed double dosage of fever meds to the toddler, but also double dosage of antibiotics and lozenges!  The dosage was meant for an adult.  When the boy turned pale, sweated profusely and cried incessantly, his mother called the hospital and the nurse there admitted that the dosage given was wrong!!

Reading this reminded me that 1.5 years ago, Baby too was given the wrong dosage of prophylaxis antibiotics  (for the prevention of UTI) by the pharmacist in a supposedly ‘five star’ hospital chain.  The hospital is in Ipoh.  I had brought Baby back to Ipoh to my parents during the long school holidays in 2008.  Fortunately, I was a ‘pro’ in antibiotics dosage after having administered them to Baby since she was 7 weeks old. When I queried the pharmacist, he appeared confused and then I insisted that he called the doctor to reconfirm the dosage.  It was then that he realized his mistake.  What if I am a newbie mother who doesn’t know anything about antibiotics dosage?  My baby would have suffered at the expense of the pharmacist’s carelessness.

So my advice to all mothers is to always double check your child’s meds dosage with the doctor after the pharmacist has given you the meds.  Just spend a few minutes to ask the doctor and your child’s life could be saved. Don’t worry about troubling your doctor.  I’m just speaking from experience.
