A friend of mine recently quit her job to be a SAHM to her only child, a 3-year old boy. However, after a month, she felt pretty bored at home. She told me that she intends to take up some online degree programs to fulfill her wish of obtaining a degree. It’s tough being a SAHM and to study at the same time, she would really need to juggle and prioritize her time very well. I don’t think I can ever study and be a SAHM at the same time. This would really stress me out mentally and physically.

Train Accident
A young female office worker fell onto the tracks from an after-office hour sardine-packed commuter train. Another oncoming train was just minutes away behind the young lady and she lay unconscious on the tracks, bleeding profusely on her head. A stranger saw the lady and without thinking of his own safety jumped down from the moving train to save the lady. Though he was slightly injured in the jump, he summoned all his courage and strength to pull the lady away from the tracks. When the lady was conscious, she and her fiancé thanked the stranger profusely for unselfishly saving her life. If not for him, her family would probably have to engage a FELA Railroad Injury and Train Accident Lawyer. This real-life story that I read from my favorite magazine this morning has touched me. May God bless this young man’s heart.
Homemade California Rolls
My girls love California rolls and simple cucumber Maki and these ain’t cheap. A simple California roll with filling of eggs, cucumber, crab meat stick and crab roe can cost between RM5 – RM8 each at a Japanese restaurant. A family of 3 kiddos and 2 adults can easily chomp down 5-8 pieces of California rolls in a meal and that’s only the appetizer. An ala carte lunch or dinner of Japanese for our family of 5 can easily cause a damage of RM100 – RM150 to my hubs.
I had a light bulb moment the other day while having lunch at the Japanese restaurant. I decided to be ambitious and planned to make my own California rolls for the girls’ lunch. So the next day, I bought a packet of frozen crab meat sticks, a Japanese cucumber, vegetarian char siew, vegetarian fish and vegetarian roast goose, fried some eggs and bought a packet of cooked Japanese rice from the Japanese restaurant at our condo.
The ingredients….
I cut a large piece of toasted laver (Murasaki) or seaweed into half, placed a small slice of thinly pan-fried egg on the seaweed, followed by the Japanese rice, Japanese cucumber, crabmeat stick, vegetarian meat, squeezed in some creamy Japanese mayo and rolled it into a cone. Next time, I must remember to get an Avocado too for the filling.
Though the California roll wasn’t neatly wrapped, my kids and sil loved it. Each of them chomped down 3-4 rolls and I am having new orders from my 2 older pernickety girls for more of my homemade California rolls! Now, I need to keep practicing to improve on my California roll wrapping skill. And don’t you think that this is also a well balanced meal? It has a combo of protein from the eggs, crab meat stick and soy beans from the vegetarian meat, fiber from the seaweed and cucumber and carbo from the rice.
Lots of Greens To Combat Constipation
Baby is a very constipated child. Just the other day, I had to use enema to stimulate her bowel to move… which traumatized her very much. Baby hates the enema but sometimes I have no choice but to force use the enema on her when I know that the hard rock poop is stuck at the edge of her rectum and causing her a lot of pain and discomfort. Her surgeon had warned us many times to keep Baby free from constipation as this will cause a UTI attack. Enema always works but it takes the whole family to hold her down, in order for me to squirt the liquid into her anus!
I am now trying to include lots of greens into Baby’s diet, preferably twice a day, with lots of fruits and freshly squeezed orange juice and I think it’s helping. Her stools have been soft and nice for the past few days 😀
A plate full of greens….I was surprised that Baby even liked steamed ladies fingers, drizzled with a little Japanese citrus salad sauce.
Cheddar Cheese Pancakes
My girls and I love pancakes. I like to be adventurous when it comes to baking and cooking. Some of the flavors that I had whipped up in the past were multi-seeded pancake (which I added sesame seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and wholemeal flour), mashed banana pancake, chocolate flavored pancake (which I added my girls’ chocolate-flavored milk powder), durian pancake, orange juice pancake and my latest creation – cheddar cheese pancake. My girls like their pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, ice cream or even with yoghurt. Pancakes are normally made for lunch and an extra portion made (and pan fried) for deep freezing for our future lunch (normally eaten within 2 weeks). The frozen pancakes, after thawing and heating in the toaster taste as good as fresh, in fact even better as the sides are crispy after heat up in the toaster. My next pancake idea is a savory one where I will add some tuna fish and chopped onions. My girls would love pancake with sausage or ham but I hardly buy deli meat and I consider them junk food.
Ingredients used for cheddar cheese pancake : pancake mix, 3 eggs, 2 tablespoons of milk powder, grated block cheddar cheese, olive oil or butter. Butter pan-fried pancakes are more flavorful while olive oil pan-fried ones are less flavorful but healthier and friendlier to your waist line too.
Android Mobile Phone With WiFi
My hubs recently bought me a Blackberry so that I can check my emails and reply my customers while I am on the go. Having a mobile phone with WiFi is so convenient and useful for a WFHM like me. However, I find the Blackberry screen a tad small and I often go dizzy if I spend too long a time checking my emails using the Blackberry. I should have asked my hubs to get me an android mobile phone like the htc desire hd which comes with a wide and high resolution screen. I think I will have to wait until my next birthday for him to get me such an expensive gadget.
Best To Avoid Medication During Pregnancy
My first pregnancy was plagued with pregnancy related discomforts that affected me from head to toe. I had zits on my face and body, a pregnancy tumor on my gums which was really huge and caused massive bleeding each time I brushed my teeth, heart burn, severe vomiting for the first 12 weeks, spotting, a sensitive uterus, vaginal yeast infection, threatened prematured labor, among others. I was on semi bed rest for the first 12 weeks and last 1 month of my pregnancy. Despite all the discomforts that I had, I was very adamant that I should not consume any medication to treat the symptoms. My dream was to have a beautiful and healthy baby and my dream was granted.
If you are pregnant, you must be very careful with what you eat, especially with oral meds. Topamax is one drug that has adverse side effects on the unborn child. Topamax taken during pregnancy can result in cleft lip. If you have a baby born with cleft lip and you suspect that it could have been caused by Topomax that you consumed during your pregnancy, you can seek a Topamax birthdefect lawsuit to help you get a compensation.
Our 6-Year Old Girl
What would you do if you have a 6-year old daughter who loves to dawdle every morning before she leaves the house for school, dawdle before she goes just about anywhere, tampers with your thinning patience everyday with her disobedience, provokes you with her constant whining and screaming and refuses to do her homework? I have one at home and I am at a total lost. I wonder how she will fare when she enters primary one next year. Will she be able to cope with the tough academic syllabus of a Chinese school? My hubby always tells me to take it easy with our #2 and not to pressure his precious one too much *rolls eyes* Oh well, whatever. I’ll bet his precious, who is a vain-pot will pester him to send her to a glam beauty school like Crystal Lake beauty school 10 years down the road to pursue her interest in this field. Who know, perhaps she will excel in the arena of cosmetics and coiffuring and will turn out just fine.
