I remember so vividly how I longed to hear Cass let out a fart when she was lying listlessly in the pediatric ward at GMC Penang 3 years ago. As long as she can fart, that will be a sign that her guts are not blocked. Our room was devoid of music and TV as I was waiting anxiously to hear her fart. But she did not fart, sadly…. not until her second surgery which took place about 2 weeks after the first surgery. When she finally farted after the second surgery, that was music to my ears and I hugged and kissed her and thanked the Lord!

Dedicated Teacher
Alycia has a very dedicated and hardworking class teacher. Alycia is seldom very attached to someone and she likes her class teacher a lot. She told me that she would like to get her teacher one of those coaches gifts to be given to the teacher on the last day of school. This teacher is by far the only teacher whom I know of who encourages parents to call her on her mobile phone to ask her anything about their child in class. Alycia is going to miss this teacher when she goes to a different class next year.
Good Appetite
Cass has a very ravenous appetite. I am thankful that she loves eating and eats almost everything. I do not have to spoon feed her or coerce her to eat, like I did with Sherilyn when she was at this age (4.5YO). A person with a good appetite is a sign that she / he is healthy. Her next post-surgery ultrasound scan will be done in a month’s time and though I am quite confident that her right kidney is growing well, I still have that fear of all the ‘what ifs’.
Zonked Out Again
I have been getting only 5 hours of sleep for the past 2 nights. Oh what else? Busy with work as always and it has been worse ever since the live-in maid left. This morning I woke up feeling really zonked out. I was really tempted to get back to bed for another 5 minutes of shut eye but I know that if I did that, the seemingly 5 minutes would turn out to be an hour. And the girls will miss the van for school. So I went through the early morning motions and by 9am, I was feeling really edgy due to lethargy. I quickly took a cat nap and darn, 15 minutes later the inter-com from the guard startled me up from bed. The part-time maid had arrived. I pulled myself up from bed again. With a heavy head now, I have to quickly get my post on hydraulic manifolds completed before Cass is back from school, followed by Alycia and Sherilyn.
Fake Heatiness
Besides getting ‘heatiness’ from consuming ‘heaty food’, the Chinese believe that one can also get “kar for” or ‘fake heatiness’ from lack of sleep. This I have to agree because I am susceptible to throat infections or simply feel sluggish and sickly if I do not get enough sleep. I have been getting only 5 hours of sleep for the past few nights and feel lackluster now. I am SO GLAD that there are 2 public holiday falling on Thursday and Friday respectively, followed by the weekend! This would mean that I need not have to be up by 5am to get the girls ready for school.
YAY!!! And happy holidays peeps!!
Ruthless Robbers
Recently, a man was seriously injured when a robber tried to pull a ring off his finger and tried to remove his Mens Diamond Watch from his wrist. The slash of the parang was so hard on his stomach that his guts spilled out! And the victim managed to scuttle home to seek help before collapsing. Miraculously he survived the ordeal. Robbers are getting more daring and ruthless these days. My body has been devoid of expensive jewelry and watches for quite some time now. I am playing it safe as I jog round the neighborhood almost everyday.
Suspected Strabismus
Sherilyn had the most problems that gave me a lot of worries when she was a baby through now! When she was around 2-3 months old, I was worried sick that she may have Strabismus (cock eyed). We consulted a few pediatricians who assured us that her eyes looked pretty alright. But in photos, her eyes were pretty obvious. Thankfully she outgrew this problem and now her eyes are perfectly normal 🙂
Phobia
When my girls were toddlers, one of the many fears that plagued me was the TV. Back then, our TVs were the bulky type with a heavy body and a bulging screen. The TV in our bedroom had no tv mount stand but was only placed on top of our 4-tier chest of wooden drawers. I would have morbid visions of the TV dropping onto my young girls as they could get really wild when they play rough. I am glad that their toddler days are over and now, I have a new set of worries over my 3 young girls.
Enlarged Lymph Nodes
About 5 years ago, Sherilyn gave the hubs and I a big scare when we notice that the lymph nodes on the side of her neck, below the ears were enlarged. The nodes were mobile (which was not as worrying as compared to fixed and stationery ones). But still we were worried sick. I would touch her neck at least once a day to see if the small lumps were still there. We brought her for several scans and x-rays and the doctors said that there was nothing wrong with her. She does not have them anymore now. And I remember that when Alycia was a baby, she had those soft, mobile lymph nodes too near her nape (behind her neck). She does not have them anymore too.
Tonsil Stones Again!
Yesterday, Sherilyn coughed out yet another tonsil stone from her throat. She was eating fruits and suddenly, she choked and coughed. Moments later, she showed me that stinky ‘white tooth’. I told her to sniff it so that she knows how it smelled like and would know what comes out from her throat in future. This girl has a very, very ‘heaty’ body just like mine. Just give her a piece of deep fried chicken and I am certain that she will either have mouth ulcer or throat infection a few days later. She has a body just like mine. She needs to be a health freak just like me too, so that she does not get throat infection so frequently.
Picture of the tonsil stones coming up soon!
