Potty training a 4.5YO girl with a lazy bladder and a urinary tract that’s meddled with surgically when she was only 13 months old is indeed tough. I have now kept Cass diaper-free during day time and only put a pad on for her. The pad is wet every half an hour. If she does not drink water, then the pad will not be wet. But if I do not feed her with lots of water, I will be paranoid of another problem – UTI attack and constipation! Tough job for me. I need divine intervention!

Off To Cold Turkey
The thick winter clothing that my mum brought to her recent trip to Turkey were warm enough for her. My mum and dad spent 10 very blissful days in winter cold Turkey, though they went cold turkey on hot weather. No pun intended hehe. They went on a hot air balloon ride and the strong winds blew the hot air balloon off track. The hot air balloon with many tourists on board landed in some jungle and the tourists, including my parents were rescued many hours later. They survived on wild grapes in the jungle and my mum had so many interesting Turkey tales to regale to us when we were back in Ipoh recently. But bummer, after the cold Turkey trip, my mum’s asthma resurfaced and she is now nursing a bad cough. Next time, I must ask her to buy Marmot winter clothes instead. Yes, they are much warmer. You can check out stylish marmot here.
Home-baked Scones
The mil made 3 batches of scones just before she left for Hong Kong. First batch was unsuccessful. Undeterred, she made another batch the next day. Texture has improvement but still did not meet her high standards. So she made another batch the same day! And we all had scones for breakfast, lunch and dinner (as dessert) for 3 days straight lol! We also gave some away to friends.
I like to eat my scones with homemade kaya (coconut jam) and strawberry Philadelphia cheese spread.
This is how Alycia preferred to eat her scones — with blueberry jam and grandma’s homemade fresh cream. Yep, the mil even whipped up some fresh cream (from whipping cream) to go with the scones!
Converting Our Wedding Video Into DVD
Our wedding ceremony was filmed and stored in a video tape that is over 12 years old. I still have the video tape with me but the problem is that video players are obsolete now. Maybe they still do exist but I have not seen one for aeons. When I was eight years old through my teenage years, the craze then was to rent video tapes from those video tape shops at RM2 per tape. We would spend our long school holidays chasing TVB series from the rental of video tapes. I remember watching 10 tapes a day with my brothers and dad till the wee hours of the morning. How I miss those simple, care-free days in my hometown. Back then entertainment outlets were scarce and watching rented video tapes was a luxury. Does anyone still use a video player now? And are video tapes still available for rental or for sale now?
Many times, our kids have asked to view our wedding video tape but there is no way we could play the video tape as we had discarded our two video tape players many years ago ever since DVD and DVD players were born. My hubs has a friend who can help us convert our wedding video tapes and even our old film to DVD. I also want to convert our stacks of decades-old films into DVD so that our kids could have an insight of how daddy and mummy looked and did when we were their age. Besides our decades-old films and video tapes, I have some home videos of Alycia and Sherilyn recorded over eight years ago. One of the home videos was recorded during our trip to Hong Kong seven years ago. Alycia was only 21 months and Sherilyn 7 months. The last half of the home video is now damaged and I want to salvage it, no matter how much the cost is. I cherish the moments I spent with my kids and I know I will miss those moments with them when they are all grown up and have left the nest.
Healthy Homemade Soups
My mum is a health freak in an even more serious state than I am. She eats pretty bland food, almost free from sodium and low in oil and sugar. She plants her own veggie and herbs in her garden, makes her own jams from plums, oranges, strawberries, peaches, apricots and other fruits that she has excess, makes her own bread, makes the best kaya in the whole wide world and can bake very delish cakes and pies.
My mum has a stash of homemade soups kept in the freezer at all times, which she will heat up and put in some vermicelli or just eat it with some hot toasted bread whenever my dad is too tired to cook (my dad is the chef at home!). My girls have never tried granny’s homemade capsicum soup and sweet corn soup and I am glad that this holiday, they finally had a chance to. And they all loved granny’s soups to bits and gobbled up all her soups stash left in the freezer! Since it was such a big hit, my mum made another batch of soup today, with carrots, cherry tomatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, big onions and garlic. It is so simple to whip up — contains no meat, no stir frying is needed and all you need are a big pot to cook the ingredients for about half an hour and then a hand mixer to blend the soup!
Granny’s homemade capsicum soup (made from red bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil and purple sweet potatoes as thickening agent) and sweet corn soup (made from sweet corns, carrots, organic soy bean powder onions, garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil and potatoes as thickener), garnished with sweet thyme homegrown from her herbal garden.
My mum omitted whipping cream as she is lactose intolerant and substituted it with organic soy bean powder.
Melagel For My Dry Lips
Whenever I travel, I always bring along my lip balm as travelling in an air-cond car and sleeping in an air-cond room dry up my lips and sides of my mouth and cause them to crack, peel and this hurt me terribly. This time, I had forgotten to put my Burt’s Bees lip balm and my lips started to crack. My left toe had cracked skin too. But thankfully, I remembered to pack 2 disks of Melagel Topical Balm in my make-up bag!! So I decided to apply Melagel onto my lips, sides of my mouth and toe. The next morning, the cracks on my lips have almost closed. So were the cracks at the side of my mouth and toe (I have extremely dry skin and air cond aggravates the problem). Really amazing! Next time, no need to bring lip balm or antiseptic creams when I travel. Melagel is my all-purpose wound healer! You really gotta try it to believe it!
MelaGel contains 23% T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil along with the best, most natural cocoa butter, beeswax, and wheat germ oil. Also includes vitamins A, D3, and E, each complementing each other and invigorating your dry skin.
My First Teenage Party
I attended my very first boy-girl party when I was 14 years old. I still remember that day very clearly. I did not know how to dance and so were my friends. After watching our seniors dance their butt away, we went into one of the vacant bedrooms of our friend’s house to practice dancing lol! Those days, there were no ButtKicker music equipment. All we had were a mini compo, turned on full blast and several speakers. But we enjoyed ourselves to the max, especially during the slow dance session. My friends and I would wait anxiously for the boy of our dreams to ask us for a dance. The boy of my dreams did not ask me to dance with him, sadly but someone else did. He is now my other half! I wonder if teenagers and youngsters still have this sort of parties now.
