I was busy at work on my computer and when I turned back to look at Baby, I got a bloody scare of my life when I saw blood on her nose.
But it wasn’t anything serious. She had just scratched her nose! This fella is learning all the bad habits from her cheh cheh who likes to scratch, bite and peel the skin off her fingers and toes. There always isn’t anything wrong with her fingers and toes but it’s just a bad habit that she has picked up and a self-inflicting pain one too. Gosh, I must help my eldest girl break this habit before all her fingers and toes turn into horribly awful ones, as if she was one abused kid!
Baby is still wetting her panties and because of this urine leakage problem that she has, I find it extremely hard to wean her off diapers. I think she is not even aware of the problem as she would tell me in frustration all the time that she did not pee in her panty. Her surgeon told us that he has many patients with similar conditions as Baby and they too had urine leakage. Only time will tell when she will outgrow this problem. He has a patient who had to be in diapers until he was 8 years old and the problem just corrected by itself one fine day. Oh gosh, I cannot imagine how much we would have to spend on diapers if Baby’s problem will only resolve on its own when she’s 8 years old. The MAG3 scan that she has to do in April will give us more answers to her problem. I hope she does not need another surgery, ever.
I had a shock of my life last week when I felt a big lump on the back of Baby’s head. Baby had woken up really early that morning and my helper was still mopping the floor. When my helper saw Baby running on the part of the floor that was just mopped, she did not warn Baby that the floor was wet. True enough, Baby slipped on the wet floor, fell and the back of her head hit the floor. I rushed out of the bathroom when I heard a loud thud and Baby wailing away. I quickly picked Baby up and massaged her head. I was horrified and petrified when I felt a lump, the size as big as a kiwi fruit on the back of her head. Any lump on any part of our body is not good. It did not dawn on me then that the lump was caused by the fall. How could the lump appear right away after a fall I thought. For the next few hours, I was obsessed with touching Baby’s head. Each time I touched, Baby bawled and complained of pain. The lump was not fixed to the skin / scalp. It could move and felt like gummy bears running just beneath the skin of the head.
Then I decided to part Baby’s hair to check the back of her head. I wad a tad relieved when I saw a big red ‘bungalow’ with a little fresh blood on the bungalow. I was quite convinced that the lump was caused by the fall and not something else. I was only worried of a tumour. I quickly wrapped some ice cubes with a hanky and rubbed it on the swell. By afternoon, the swell was almost gone. Later in the night, I applied cold compress on her head again. The next morning, the lump was gone and Baby did not complain of pain anymore. Gosh, I was sick to the pit of my stomach when I felt that huge lump on Baby’s head. Since that incident, I am paranoia each time Baby runs for fear that she will fall again. And the next day, she fell again but this time, she hit her mouth on the floor and caused her gums to bleed! I told Baby that I am going to let her don on the helmet that daddy bought for her sisters when they go biking, to protect her head, even when she’s at home. Sigh, this rascal is so accident prone! Can’t wait for all these to pass and for her go grow up.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that Baby’s cheeks were very rosy all of a sudden. I thought they were some kind of allergy or rash. When I touched the red patch, it was smooth and there was no rash at all. The rosy cheeks looked very natural. She looked really pretty with rosy cheeks and strangers who saw her asked me what I fed her with to get such beautiful glow on the cheeks! And they asked if she had come from overseas! But I was a tad worried. Why would she have such rosy cheeks all of a sudden? She wasn’t hot and she wasn’t sweating. I could not recall feeding her with anything new or unusual. About a week later, the blush on her cheeks subsided. Now she’s back to normal but still has pinkish complexion 🙂
Baby’s first meal of the day is fruits. I have been having fruits for my breakfast, on an empty stomach (or half an hour after food) for over 10 years after being influenced by my erstwhile boss who is a cancer survivor and another health freak colleague who is a staunch follower of eating fruits on an empty stomach to reap the full health benefits of the fruits. My erstwhile boss ate nothing but fruits for breakfast and lunch.
Baby’s favorite fruits are oranges, red dragon fruits, strawberries, grapes, jackfruit (I don’t allow her to eat jackfruit first thing in the morning as the Chinese believe that jackfruits cause wind in the tummy) and durian.
My helper was feeding Baby and she had allowed Baby to play with a pair of scissors so that she will sit still and finish her food. The scissors are meant for trimming the finger nails of babies. But it is sharp too. When I tried to snatch the scissors away from Baby, she struggled and accidentally snipped my left forefinger. Gawd, I yelled out in pain and I was bleeding badly. It hurt awfully and the cut was pretty deep. I was fuming mad with my helper for being so careless for allowing Baby to play with a pair of scissors. It’s been almost a week and it still hurts. How can it heal quickly when I can’t avoid wetting my hands all the time washing poopied bumps right? Sigh….
At 2 years 7 months, Baby is still on diapers on and off during the day. When she is off diapers, she will be wearing training pants. Her training pants is slightly wet all the time. I suspect that she is dribbling urine. Baby’s surgeon did mention to us before that he had seen other kids with history of Kidney Reflux wetting their panties all the time. I hope this problem ain’t serious. I hope that with Kegel Exercise when she’s older, the problem will resolve without any invasive intervention like surgery. I hope Baby doesn’t need to undergo anymore surgery! I can’t wait to hear from the surgeon what he has to say about this when we bring Baby to see him soon.
Today is a day of washing pooped out bottoms for me!! Both Baby and Sherilyn are having diarrhea. They are slightly feverish too. I kid you not, I am rushing to the bathroom to washed pooped out bottoms every half an hour. Baby was feverish for 1-2 days and is better today. But she pooped 4-5x today. Consistency of the poop is like porridge. Sherilyn started having high fever (highest was at 39.3 degrees Celsius) yesterday. I knew she was not well when she napped for 2 hours in the afternoon yesterday. She hardly ever naps in the afternoon no matter how tired she may be. The fever did not subside despite a suppository. This morning hubs brought Sherilyn to the paed’s office. The paed said she has viral infection and a slight strep throat. I wonder why doctors like to lump most of the sicknesses as viral infection? Can they just be a little specific? She was prescribed with Esberitox (wonder why she was given Esberitox though she has no cold!), a Leftose syrup for the throat and Ibuprofen for the fever. Sherilyn has been running to the throne every half hourly and I have been washing her bottom as well as Baby’s non-stop the whole day! I wonder what caused the diarhhea. I am now suspecting that it’s the fresh milk they drank or the santan from the Indonesian dessert that they ate at this Indonesian restaurant we went to on Sunday. I hope tomorrow will be a better day for us.
Ever since Baby was an infant, she never once took any oral meds to treat her cough or runny nose. That’s because since she was 7 weeks old, she had to take oral antibiotics everyday until she was 14 months old (that’s after the Ureteral Reimplantation surgery in May last year). Our paed has all the while been not in favor of her eating too much meds as she already had enough of meds in her body. So each time Baby is down with a flu, stuffy nose and phlegm, I will let her inhale the Ventolin, given through the Aero Chamber. Though very costly, the Aero Chamber is a good investment.
About 2 weeks ago, Baby had runny nose and phlegm. Again, I self treated her with Esberitox and the Ventolin. After 3 days of Ventolin inhalation (2 puffs, 3x a day), she was well again. I never like my kids to take oral meds for runny nose, phlegm and cough. I also kept her free from cow’s milk throughout the period she was unwell. Cow’s milk is known to induce phlegm. Until today, Baby is still drinking organic soy bean milk and organic oatmeal milk. I shall blog about these 2 in my next post.
Baby is 80% weaned off my boops!! Last night was the first night she slept oh so soundly without fussing and without searching for my boops. This morning when I offered her my boops, she took a look at her comfort tools and then turned her head away! I didn’t expect her to reject her comfort tools, the tools which she had found so much satisfaction, comfort and solace in for 29 months of her life. While I am really happy that I can wean her off my boops without any tears and sleepless nights, I am nevertheless a tad sad that my Baby is growing up. I will definitely miss our moments together.
