Addicted to Gardenia Bread!

I am a sucker for healthy bread — bread with multi-grain, multi-seed, multi-nuts and flour-free bread. My girls are a sucker for Gardenia white bread. They can eat it 3x a day with no complaints (eat it on its own some more!),  albeit I think Alycia the rice-addict will be craving for rice for dinner. For Sherilyn, she will have absolutely no complaints with eating bread everyday.  When our maid leaves us, my girls shall have Gardenia white bread for lunch everyday I promise!

Here’s one of Gardenia’s latest product, which iLove to bits.  I love to have my mum’s homemade pandan kaya and homemade strawberry jam spread on it.  Also love my bread spread with SCS butter and my mil’s homemade pesto sauce.

Passione Italiana Herbal Mediterranean Mixed Grains bread:

The other 2 latest healthy bread by Gardenia are Sommerset Cottage Multi Grain & Seeds and Bonjour Le Classique Sesawhite.

You can check out Gardenia’s website for more information. This is not a paid post, though I am hoping that the Gardenia Management reads this post and gives me a free supply of their delish bread for a year muahahahaha!!

New Dutch Lady Kid Chocolate Flavored Milk

Dutch Lady recently launched a new product in the market – Dutch Lady Kid and Dutch Lady School, which comes in convenient packets for kids on the go. They come in 3 variants of Full Cream, Strawberry and Chocolate. Baby and Sherilyn love the chocolate variant while Alycia is a bore when it comes to milk. She only drinks Dutch Lady 6 formulated milk and Marigold HL fresh milk and absolutely nothing else.  It’s an irony that she loves to eat chocolate but  finds it nauseous to drink chocolate milk!

When we were in Penang, I bought these packet milk for #2 and #3. When we adults feasted on hawkers food, Baby drank her favorite Dutch Lady Kid chocolate flavored milk and full cream milk with cereals.

Hoi Tin Tong Turtle Essence Herbal Jelly (Gui Ling Gao)

After lunch at Canton-I at The Gardens @ Mid Valley, we went into Hoi Ting Tong to try their herbal jelly. Hoi Ting Tong has outlets in Dataran Mentari Sunway, Damansara Jaya, Kota Damansara, Kuchai Lama and the outlet at Gardens is their latest outlet in Malaysia. Hoi Tin Tong originated from Hong Kong.

The cheapest bowl of gui ling gao cost a whopping RM15 and we ordered a bowl to try. We liked it. Even my 3 girls liked the gui ling gao. It has the herbal taste unlike other gui ling gao that only taste like ‘leong fun’.

Hoi Tin Tong specializes in gui ling gao and other ‘leong char’ (cooling herbal tea) and the entire shop only carries these 2 items.

The menu.

Gui ling gao is made from the bottom shell, or plastron, of a turtle, plus several Chinese herbs to make a black jello-like substance. It is supposed to have many health benefits, including reducing fevers, detoxify the body, strengthens the immune system and improving the complexion and skin.

Truffle Butter

My mil brought home a small jar of truffle butter from Hong Kong recently. I have never eaten truffle butter or heard of the name before. Yes, I have heard of truffles as in chocolate or cake but not truffle butter. I’ll bet you have not heard of truffle butter too. It is very expensive and is considered a gourmet delicacy.

Truffles are wild mushrooms. They are round, warty, irregular in shape and vary from the size of a walnut to that of a man’s fist. The season for most truffles falls between September and May. Since the times of the Greeks and Romans these fungi have been used in Europe as delicacies, as aphrodisiacs, and as medicines. They are among the most expensive of the world’s natural foods, often commanding as much as $250 to $450 per pound!!

Truffles are very expensive as they are very difficult to harvest. Truffles are harvested in Europe with the aid of female pigs or truffle dogs, which are able to detect the strong smell of mature truffles underneath the surface of the ground. The female pig becomes excited when she sniffs a chemical that is similar to the male swine sex attractant. The use of pigs is risky, though, because of their natural tendency to eat any remotely edible thing. For this reason, dogs have been trained to dig into the ground wherever they find these odors, and they willingly exchange their truffle for a piece of bread and a pat on the head. Not a bad trade for the truffle hunter! Some truffle merchants dig for their prizes themselves when they see truffle flies hovering around the base of a tree. Once discovered, truffles can be collected in subsequent years at the same site.

My breakfast – a slice of wholemeal walnut bread.  Half a slice with kaya and half a slice with truffle butter.

Healthy Dessert From A Fruit, A Thorny Leave And An Egg

Check out this unique dessert from the Sweet Hut:

It’s the first time I see such a uniquely created healthy dessert.  The base  like a boat is half a papaya.  The white creamy stuff is steamed egg white and the jelly like cubes are aloe vera.  This dessert is served warm.  How do I like it?  Not too bad.  This is the kind of desserts for health freaks.

Sweet Hut Dessert is located at

Magnolia Yoghurt Petite Low Fat Ice Cream With Yoghurt

I got a pack of Magnolia Yoghurt Petite Low Fat Ice Cream With Yoghurt to try from a nearby super mart and I must say that they are really tasty — not too sweet and I think it is a healthier alternative to regular ice-creams.  They are made from real strawberry juice, strawberry puree and mango puree. I think they taste very natural. My kids love them!  Baby who is an ice-cream fanatic can chomp down the  entire stick of ice cream herself!

Charcoal Bamboo Swiss Roll Cake

My hubs bought a loaf of charcoal bamboo swiss roll cake from our favorite bakery the other day.  It didn’t really look appealing because of the blackish/grayish color of the cake but it tasted good!  Some ingredients used made the texture of the cake a little ‘crunchy’.  The cream you see in the middle is custard and it ain’t  very sweet.   There used to be a hype with charcoal bamboo bread last year and now there’s charcoal bamboo cake for health savvy cake lovers!  I will definitely buy this cake again.

Super Organic Instant Soy Milk Powder

I bought this pack of Super organic instant soy milk powder from Sri Kota the other day.   These day, Baby drinks more soy milk than cow’s milk.  She also prefers soy milk to cow’s milk.  I wonder which has more nutrients  and ‘safer’ to drink. Looking at the food label, it looks like formulated milk powder for kids have more nutrients.   I read from some articles that cow’s milk may have some residue of hormones from the cows.

Anyway, I was told by our paed and surgeon that it is ok for a child above 2 years old to stop drinking milk as long as she/he is eating a well-balanced diet. Baby is eating a well-balanced diet now and seems to love food too 🙂

Baby prefers Unisoy’s instant organic soy milk powder to Super’s. This Super brand has added cane sugar and though it’s less sweet, I still find it very sweet. Next time, I will just stick to Unisoy (made in Singapore).

Emborg Edam In Slices Mild And Fresh Cheese

I had asked the hubs to get me a pack of Kraft’s singles cheese the other day but my man who always has doubts about processed cheese (and would always shake his head each time I buy them) got me a pack of Emborg Edam in slices cheese instead (made in Germany). I have no regret that he got me this brand and type of cheese instead coz this cheese is tasty and most importantly, it is not salty.  It only contains 1.4% of salt and the texture is harder and coarser than other brands of regular processed cheddar cheese. As it is not salty, I have given some to Baby to try and she loved it as well.

My breakfast consisting of a slice of walnut wholemeal bread with a thick slice of Emborg Edam cheese. Yummy, iLike! Will definitely get another pack.
