When Alycia and Sherilyn were younger, my hubby and I spent a lot of money on their toys and books. I was still working then and could still splurge generously on toys for them. Most of their toys were battery-operated, which means we ended up spending more money! Normal batteries did not last long. So we used only alkaline batteries and duracell procell 9V. Each toy ended up costing almost double the amount we spent on it, inclusive of the batteries. For Cassandra, I was wiser. I stopped buying toys as I knew that each toy would probably be touched for a few days or a few weeks (some toys were never touched!) and thereafter, it would ‘expire’ and land in the white toy box or given away again.

Not A Risk Taker
My suppliers sell all sorts of cute kids’ clothes and kids’ accessories. A supplier even sells funky wigs for kids and Cowboy Hat! These are all very slow-moving products as people would only buy such items for special occasions like for a concert or for a fancy dress party. Some of the items are never sold despite my supplier slashing down the prices and I wonder what she does with such items. Sometimes I am very tempted to stock up on some cute kids clothes and cute kids accessories which I can get at very attractive wholesale prices with a minimum order quantity. But I am not a risk taker just yet. I hate to see my money bogged down in stocks that don’t move!
If Only I Knew
If only I knew that there was insurance for the unborn child, I would have bought one for Cassandra when she was still in-utero. This type of insurance covers even hereditary conditions, suffered by the child. But it’s too late, as fate had it. It’s fated that we have to dig our reserves dry to save her. She is the most expensive child of my three girls. But this has not stopped me from loving her with all my heart. I cannot tell you how important insurance is for everyone. You never know when you will need it. My friend’s sister went to Thailand for a holiday and a very unfortunate road accident had left her sister’s leg broken and one of her son’s eye blinded and the son is only 6YO! Whether it is medical insurance, accident insurance, education insurance, business insurance or even motorhome insurance, insurance is something that you cannot say no to for you cannot say no to misfortunes. Misfortunes can happen to anyone even before he/she is born, at any time with no forewarning.
Shopping With 2 Uncontrollable Young Kids
I hate shopping with my 2 younger girls. Whenever we go shopping, they are like 2 uncontrollable puppies running wildly everywhere at the shopping mall and that’s when I will transform into a screaming mad mother. Despite me yelling to them to STOP RUNNING and STOP CLIMBING, they will turn a deaf ear. At times like this, I wish I had a real time gps tracking gadget attached to them just in case I lose them in the crowded mall. In times like this too, I really wished I had a long extendable cane with a hook at the end in my hand, which I could just throw across them, to fish them back to me, before I give them a good lesson!
Tail-bone hurt
A few months ago, my mum fell from an old plastic stool while she was trying to reach for something on top of a cupboard and hurt her tail bone badly. The decade-old plastic stool just crumbled apart when she stood on it. She was in great pain and had to sit on an inflatable swimming tube whenever she sat on the chair. For weeks she could not even have a decent car ride as she would feel a stabbing pain on the tail bone when the car moved. I told her that she has to use a sturdy step stool for safety purpose in future. I am not sure if she has bought one. I must remind her to.
Living Room Makeover
Now that I am writing for Ikea and receiving monthly cash vouchers from them, I am seriously thinking of making over our living room area, where the TV is. The couch seriously needs a change in the covers or better still completely change them to a new set that iLike! I have also been eyeing on those wall mounts to mount our TV. If we were to mount a TV on the wall, that would also mean changing our TV to those LCD tvs that can be mounted on the wall. Next would be the curtains to be changed. With so much make-over to our living room, I am not sure if the cash vouchers for a year are sufficient. Well, hopefully they will extend my contract for another year so that I can earn another year’s worth of cash vouchers 😀
What The Year End Means
The holidays have just started. The year end is the time where we make our yearly ‘pilgrimage’ to Penang – firstly for Baby to see the surgeon and to do a yearly ultrasound scan. Secondly, it is fun time for the girls at the hotel and beach. And thirdly, it is the time for the hubs and I to indulge in good old Penang food. Oooh, I can’t wait to tuck into all my favorite Penang food. I have also started to prepare Baby mentally for the ultrasound scan, telling her that it is nothing more than watching her kidneys on the ‘TV’ and that no pain will be involved. At one time after her surgeries, she had a phobia of X-ray rooms and healthcare carts and anyone donning on medical scrubs. Now, she is one brave and tough cookie, whose pain and fear tolerance levels are higher than most adults.
Of Dimples and Eye Lashes
My girls have pretty long eye lashes, with Alycia having the longest and most luscious eye lashes among the three of them, thanks to her daddy’s genes. She also has 2 deep and sweet dimples on both sides of her cheeks, also thanks to her daddy’s DNA. I don’t have any of these beauty assets. When I was a little girl, I so longed to have a dimple on my cheek that I kept pressing my cheek with my forefinger, in the hope of a dimple appearing on my cheek LOL!! Then when I was a young working adult, I even had thoughts of using eyelash growth serum so that my eye lashes will grow thicker and longer! Now that I am a mother to 3 pretty girls, I no longer fantasize of having long eye lashes or dimples. I am now one happy and contented mommy whose 3 daughters have inherited the beauty assets that I once longed to have 🙂
Do You Wear Your Wedding Band All The Time?
We do not. My parents do up until today and their wedding rings of over 40 years have never left their ring fingers. For us, that’s because of compelling situations that we are unable to wear our wedding bands all the time. I have tried wearing the wedding band but I ended up having peeling skin and blisters on the skin under the ring. My hubs is in the food catering business and is in contact with food all the time, thus wearing a ring is not hygienic and not really practical. In fact, his wedding band was lost and we suspected that our previous helper was the culprit. I was really upset when he told me that he could not find his wedding band. But he sure knew how to assure me that his love for me was still there when he bought us a pair of new wedding rings on my birthday 4 years ago. Though it was not an expensive titanium wedding band like I had wished for, I was nevertheless very touched that he treated the wedding bands as a symbol of a sacred marriage.
Childhood Ambition
When I was about 12 years old, one of my permanent teeth was almost yanked out. Thankfully my mum knew of a very good dentist who managed to do a very tedious but successful job to salvage that tooth. I was so happy and grateful to this dentist and vowed to get myself some Dental Jobs when I grow up. But as fate had it, I embarked on totally different careers and is now a small-time entrepreneur!
