Before cooking your beef spaghetti bolognaise or steaming eggs with meat, do you wash the minced meat? If yes, do you wash it with a sieve. I have always instructed my previous maids to wash any type of meat before cooking them, including minced meat. For meat used to boil soup, I even instructed her to blanch the meat briefly with hot water before dumping it into the pot of soup. Now that I am maidless, I am trying to cut down on work. I do not mind washing the minced meat using a sieve but I find washing and cleaning the sieve very troublesome as the minced meat will get wedged inside the tiny holes of the sieve. I use a brush to wash the sieve but sometimes the meat is still stuck inside the very tiny holes. So I am just wondering if it is really necessary to wash minced meat before cooking it. My mil always has doubts that the butcher washes the meat before grinding the meat and has qualms about the cleanliness of the blender used too.

I buy a piece of meat of my choice, bring it home and wash it before mincing it with my own machine. Sometimes I ask the butcher to wash it and mince it at the market itself. If you wash the minced meat, you’ll be washing away the juice of mince meat and lose its nutrient.
I wash it in the plastic bag and poke tiny holes for the water to drain out.
Chris, but does your butcher wash it for you before mincing the meat?
Mum, it’s good that your butcher does that for you. Here, I buy pre-minced ones. My mil prefers to buy the meat, wash it herself and chop it herself. If she’s not around, I am too lazy to mince it myself — too much work.

Nope. Can I ask what’s the point of washing the meat other to get rid of durface dirt and blood? Can’t wash away bacteria……
i don’t wash the minced meat but my mil does. it’s a pain to wash the sieve. now i ask the butcher to wash the meat before he mince it for me. if you buy from your regular, they will do that.
I always buy lean meat and chop it myself at home. My MIL asked me not to buy ready chop minced meat at the wet market.
