Our surgeon prescribed Baby C with Mederma cream to help the wound on her tummy (2 cuts below her belly button), neck and chest to speed up the healing process. Mederma Skin Care For Scars helps scars appear softer and smoother. Mederma cream can be used after surgeries, accidents, to remove acne scars, burns, for old/existing scars and even to remove stretch marks. Mederma is made in Germany and a small tube of 20g Mederma costs RM45 (from the hospital). According to the instructions, Mederma should be generously applied and gently rubbed for 2-3 minutes into Baby C’s wound 3-4 times a day for 8 weeks. Though it states 2-3 minutes, I can hardly rub baby’s wounds that long as she would always cry and struggle. I am quite certain that the scars on her wound would fade as she grows.
I was given this cream after my thyroid surgery. After a few application, I was too lazy to apply. 😛
children rarely scars, it’s true. After Amber’s underlips were stitched, I applied Vitamin E, direct from the capsule, it did help speed up the healing and lighten the scars.
Please please save your money..kids heal very well, don’t worry abt buying expensive cream. One thing though, don’t expose her scars to sunlight for 6 mths or so, other parts of the body are ok and important for vit D formation.
I will echo the other mums – don’t worry about the scar. Children’s skin rejuvenates itself very quickly. We were also given an expensive tube of cream for Bryan’s scar after the scalding incident. We applied it for max 6 weeks after surgery and gave up after that. His wounds are fading now (11 months later) and the surgeon mentioned that he would be as good as new by the time he is 6yrs old. We kept away from direct sunlight and also pool (chlorinated) for 3-4 months as advised by the surgeon.
