Whenever my gals have constipation, the first thing that comes into my mind to help them move their bowel is the red dragon fruit. I always have stock of the red dragon fruit in my fridge and my gals and I eat this fruit at least 2-3 times a week. But not Baby coz she seems to have loose bowel quite often, no thanks to the prophylactics antibiotics that she’s been eating daily since she was 7 weeks old. In fact, I hardly feed Baby with fruits coz she poo poos just too much. Baby takes Nutrifresh from E.Excel instead, a nutrition powder which consists of fruits, berries and veggie.
Baby could not poo poo for 2 days early this week. She hardly ever has constipation. On the 2nd and 3rd day, I gave her some red dragon fruits and as effective as it has always been, on the 3rd day, she finally poo pooed, though not as explosive as I’d expected!
Baby enjoying her red dragon fruit, which she had for dinner. Her tummy was so bloated that she had no appetite for her porridge.
She still have to take antibiotic, I tot she already fully recovered.
Michelle… Baby still has to take antibiotics until the next MCUG scan, which we will be bringing her to Penang to have it done in 2 weeks’ time. If there’s no more Kidney Reflux, she can stop taking the antibiotics.
If kids are poopy, apples are ok, in fact good to feed them that if they are having diarrhea. Apples contain pectin which “gels” things together. You can also use applesauce, from a bottle or homemade. Another good thing if having the runs is orange juice which has potassium and replaces the loss as well as hydrate. Bananas also have high potassium. I know, this is all contradictory to the old wives’ tales we grew up with!
please don’t feed baby or kids psyllium husk. It absorbs all nutrients and get passed out as faeces even b4 they can be digested. That means all good food +vitamins you feed her are simply wasted. Also the bulk fills up her tummy and she gets full without eating much proper food.
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know dragon fruit helps with constipation. So far, I only follow the 4Ps rule – prune, plum, pear & peach. Apple juice works as well (although funnily apples worked for diarhoea).
