Glaucoma is a terrifying disease of the eyes. You will not know when you start having Glaucoma as there are no symptoms till much later. The only way of detecting it is when it is already too late and you start having symptoms and then you have to treat it, or to regularly go for an eye check up every 1-2 years if you are over age 40 and have a family history of Glaucoma. I am 42 this year and yes, I am terrified of getting Glaucoma and losing my sight!! Very rarely do babies and children have glaucoma but it is possible. Better still, to be on the super safe side, just consume Izumio and Super Lutein for Glaucoma prevention and you will be able to prevent further deterioration of your eyes.
Glaucoma is a slowly progressing disease that causes damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can result in blindness. Open angle glaucoma, the most common form of the disease, affects about 3 million Americans. It is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. Since there are usually no early symptoms, half of the people with this disease don’t know they have it. With early treatment, serious vision loss and blindness can usually be prevented.
Glaucoma can only get worse or preserved. Meaning traditionally, it is treated with a life time of regular eye drops (can you imagine how inconvenient that is?) that you have to keep in temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius and applied regularly throughout the day? That would certainly be a pain for me and knowing how forgetful I am, I will probably just go blind.
The critical thing to note is that when you start having glaucoma (and I must stress this), you have no symptoms. That’s scary, isn’t it? We could all be happily going about our day to day lives and then suddenly, BANG!! Well, at least it’s not cancer. But you stand to lose your vision. It’s just as bad as cancer, no?
Signs and Symptoms
While symptoms do not initially occur, as the disease progresses, you can lose peripheral (side) vision and then central vision. Some signs can be found only during an eye exam, such as increased pressure inside the eye and optic nerve abnormalities. Other patients may complain of ocular pain, brow ache, rainbow-colored halos around lights, or blurred vision. Nausea and vomiting are other symptoms.
What Causes It?
A clear fluid flows in and out of the space at the front of the eye, nourishing nearby tissues. Glaucoma causes the fluid to pass through too slowly or to stop draining altogether. As the fluid builds up, the pressure inside the eye increases, causing damage to the optic nerve and vision loss.
Supplements And Vitamins
Before you consider incorporating nutritional therapy into your glaucoma treatment regimen, it is important to consult your general physician. While no conclusive studies prove a connection between specific foods or drinks and glaucoma, it has been suggested that foods rich in the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin may be the most effective in protecting the health of the eye.
Foods high in lutein include egg yolks, kale, spinach, broccoli, corn and peas and other fruits and vegetables.
Zeaxanthin is found in many of these same foods, but oranges and corn contain more zeaxanthin than lutein. It is also believed that individuals with a high intake of omega-3 fatty acids may have a lower incidence of certain eye diseases. Good sources are coldwater fish, such as salmon, cod and mackerel, blackcurrant seed oil and flaxseed oil.
Lutein supplements are typically used in alternative medicine for eye diseases, such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Known to build up in the retina and lens of the eye, lutein is thought to protect the eye from injury induced by free radicals (chemical byproducts shown to damage cells and contribute to the development of certain diseases).
Some alternative medicine proponents claim that lutein supplements can also help prevent colon cancer, breast cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
Taken at the correct dosage, Super Lutein can help to prevent Glaucoma, Cataract, Eye Floaters and other ailments from your entire body.
Super Lutein is a nutritional supplement containing rich amounts of carotenoids with benefits comparable to eating red, yellow, orange and dark green leafy vegetables.
Lutein, a pigment (carotenoid) found in fruits and vegetables, is known for being abundantly contained in kale, a vegetable made famous as the main ingredient of aojiru, or green juice. Spinach and broccoli are also sources of lutein. Carotenoids are pigments, available in a variety of bright colours such as yellow, red, purple, and orange, and are necessary for photosynthesis in plants. Several hundred kinds of carotenoids have been found in plants, among which, about 50 types are present in edible fruits and vegetables.
SUPER LUTEIN is formulated with lutein, lycopene—found in tomatoes, zeaxanthan—found in maize and egg yolk, as well as carotene—found in the orange-coloured pigments of carrots and pumpkins.
How much lutein do I need?
Without adequate consumption, the amount of lutein in the eye may deplete with age. Leading doctors recommend at least 6 mg of lutein per day to help maintain proper eye health. Since your body does not produce lutein, you must constantly replace it through the foods you eat. Dark, leafy green vegetables such as spinach or kale are very good sources. However, you would have to consume more than two bowls of spinach every day to get the recommended dose of lutein! Taking a multivitamin may help, but most multivitamins contain only a fraction of the recommended dosage of lutein.

I have spent umpteen number of days with Cass at numerous hospitals since she was 6 weeks old and I have seen too many chronically ill people. It is really heart-breaking if you are the parent of a dying child. I have seen them all. Take a trip to HKL (Hospital KL) – to the Nephrology and Urology Department (that’s where I normally bring Cass to) or better still, take half a day to visit the Radiology Department of HKL and these trips will be life altering. I have gone through it all, for 7 years and that is why, I value good health too much to let it slip away and then spend days on end at the hospital just to get it back.
